Home . About Us

I offer birth doula services in cooperation with friend and colleague Kelly Foerster of All Together, A Doula Service. We continue to teach childbirth and breastfeeding classes independently. Also assisting us is postpartum doula Lia Closson, offering prenatal information to help our clients prepare for life after their baby arrives.

I became a doula to offer women and their partners the confidence and resources to make informed decisions about their birth and to encourage birth experiences that are spiritual and emotional experiences rather than medical events alone.

My path to working in the childbirth field began while I was reading the book Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Dr. Christiane Northrup. It was an introduction to the idea of women's bodies as vessels of mystery, wisdom, and creativity. At no time are these qualities more apparent or important than when a woman carries and gives birth to a child - her ultimate creation. From childbirth education to breastfeeding support, I greatly enjoy offering my skills in support of the childbearing continuum. Through HypnobabiesTM classes and doula services I hope to further a client's desire to give birth peacefully and with confidence. I am open to working at all types of births as a doula and welcome the opportunity to work with non-traditional families, including same-sex couples.

I first heard about doulas in a Coloradoan news article in about 1995. After reading about a doula's role in childbirth, my first thought was, "I wish I had a doula at my son's birth!" After a second disappointing birth experience, and after starting the process to become a childbirth educator, I again stumbled upon doulas. This time my understanding about how important a doula's role is in educating and supporting families through this adventure became more clear. I felt a true calling to encourage each woman I have the privilege of attending to be an advocate for herself and her child. There is nothing quite as rewarding as being a part of this wonderful process.

Families who have postpartum support have a better time adjusting to life with a newborn. Traditionally, new parents were surrounded by family and friends who were knowledgeable in childbirth, postpartum recovery and breastfeeding. There was always someone they could turn to if they needed advice. Modern families are now spread out all over the globe and it is often difficult to find the postpartum support that they need.

I provide practical and emotional support during the postpartum period by offering breastfeeding support, helping with baby care, light housekeeping, sibling care, making appropriate referrals, and most importantly, an empathetic ear.

The postpartum phase is a time to slow down and nurture yourself. I would love to have the opportunity to help you and your family.
